The EHC Rot-Blau Bern-Bümpliz is a Swiss ice hockey club from the Bümpliz district of Bern , which has been participating in the second division , the fourth-highest division in Switzerland, since 2011 .

history

The ancestors of the club were originally the clubs EHC Fortuna and EHC Polar, founded in 1934 . But since they weren't affiliated with any club, they were able to host friendly matches. The EHC Bümpliz was founded on May 9, 1942 and a year later the EHC Fortuna and EHC Polar were accepted into the association, from which the EHC Rot-Blau emerged. In 1968 the two associations EHC Rot-Blau and EHC Bümpliz merged , and as a result of the merger, the EHC Rot-Blau Bern-Bümpliz was created. In 1971 the club played its games for the first time on the Weyermannshaus artificial ice rink in the west of Bern . In the 1975/76 season the city Bernese club of first-time promotion to the second division, which managed National League B .

The NLB season 1976/77 was not very successful, so that at the end of the season the direct relegation to the first division could not be prevented. In the 1980s and 1990s, the club for the most part shuttled between the 1st division and 2nd division. The sporting low point came in the 2008/09 season, when the Bern club voluntarily withdrew to the 3rd division. In 2011 the promotion to the 2nd division was realized. In each of the following two seasons, they made it to the playoff semi-finals of the 2nd division.
