Daniel Steiner (born September 8, 1980 in Bern ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who was last under contract with HC Thurgau in the Swiss League .

Career

Daniel Steiner began his ice hockey career like Martin Gerber at EHC Burgdorf from Emmental , where he completed the training for youngsters. He then moved to SC Bern as a junior . At the same time, he played for the first division club EHC Rot-Blau Bern-Bümpliz .

He moved to the 1999/2000 season through SC Langnau , where he completed his first season in the Swiss National League A graduated. It was followed by five more seasons with this club before he moved to the 2005/06 season to the ZSC Lions , where he wore the shirt number 17. On March 18, 2006, he suffered a severe concussion during the playout game against HC Servette Genève and was therefore injured for almost a year. During the 2007/08 season Daniel Steiner was under contract with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers . He then returned to the SCL Tigers in Emmental . Steiner also belonged to the extended squad of the Swiss national team.

In September 2009 he signed a trial contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets and took part in their NHL camp. But neither with the Blue Jackets, nor with its farm team in the American Hockey League at the Syracuse Crunch , he could prevail. So he moved to the ECHL to the Reading Royals . With many scorer points and good performances, he was able to fight for a contract with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League , after he had previously completed a trial game with the Adirondack Phantoms . In September 2010 Steiner returned to the SCL Tigers and signed a contract for two months with the Emmental.

In January 2011 Steiner agreed on a two-year contract with HC Lugano , which was valid from the 2011/12 season. Two years later he moved within the league to HC Ambrì-Piotta , where he also received a two-year contract.

In the 2015/16 season, Steiner was under contract with EHC Biel . In summer 2016 he played a try-out at EHC Olten , but could not agree on a contract with the club. Steiner ended his active career in December 2017 after he last worked for HC Thurgau .

International

Steiner completed eleven international matches for the Swiss national ice hockey team .
