eSTRO ( Hangul : 이스트로) is a former South Korean e-sports - Clan , which was founded in 2002 and was called since 2006 eSTRO. The clan had a team license for the renowned Proleague and was one of the then twelve Korean Starcraft professional teams. In August 2010 the clan disbanded.

The clan was characterized by the fact that for a long time it was the only professional team that attached great importance to being well known outside of South Korea. From 2007 to 2009, eSTRO had its own Counter-Strike team, which achieved good placements at the World Cyber Games , the ESL Intel Extreme Masters and the Electronic Sports World Cup and was in the top 10 of the G7 rankings . In addition, in the past a particularly large number of StarCraft legionaries were under contract with eSTRO (formerly AMD Dream Team , Hexatron Dream Team , e-Nature Top Team ).

eSTRO belonged to the International e-Sports Group (IEG) , which owns the broadcasting rights for the Proleague and organizes various other competitions. The former team manager Daniel Lee (actually: Lee Ji-ho) spent a large part of his life in the USA and could therefore speak perfect English.

history

eSTRO was founded in 2002 as AMD Dream Team and already at that time differed from the other ProLeague participants in the high number of foreign players. Among other things, the Canadian Guillaume "Grrr" Patry and the French Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier were part of the team. In 2003 the clan was taken over by the company Hexatron and sold to e-Nature at the end of 2004 . However, the team remained unsuccessful in the ProLeague, it even finished them in 2005 in last place. So there was another change of management on October 16, 2006: The International e-Sports Group became the new owner and created the eSTRO brand .

A short time later, Kim "GoStop" Dong-moon, a Warcraft III player, was presented and over time a complete team was to be built up. However, the plans failed and in late 2007 Kim announced his inactivity.

On March 12, 2007, the Counter-Strike team, previously known as project_kr , switched to eSTRO. At the World Cyber Games 2007, the team was among the eight best teams. Two weeks later, it qualified for the finals at CeBIT 2008 at the IEM II Global Challenge in Los Angeles . There eSTRO surprisingly achieved second place. In July 2008 the South Koreans took part in the ESWC Masters in Paris and reached the top 8. This was enough to win one of the three eligibility to participate in the Electronic Sports World Cup 2008 in San José . There eSTRO made it to the final, but then lost to MeetYourMakers from Poland. At the World Cyber Games 2008 , the Koreans took third place. In the semifinals they were defeated by the Swedes from SK Gaming .

Clan manager Daniel Lee retired from the active scene in 2008. January 2009 it was announced that the Counter-Strike-Team from eSTRO to the competitor WeMade FOX . No new commitments were planned.
