ES Cormelles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Entente Sportive Cormelles is a football club from the municipality of Cormelles-le-Royal in the French region of Normandy . The club has achieved national importance exclusively through its female soccer players , who were represented in the country's second and first division for more than a decade and a half.

history

The club was founded in 1957 and expanded to include a women's football department in 1992. Their league eleven soon rose to the second highest division (see below) . Their biggest regional rivals , the players of the also in the Calvados -based FCF Condé-sur-Noireau , the ES Cormelles could only briefly leave behind in the next two decades. In 2012, the professional club Stade Malherbe from the immediately adjacent city of Caen proposed a merger or transfer of their women's department to the ESC. While parts of the membership were positive about the offer, Cormelles' local council spoke out against it, and the women stayed with their club.

The colors of the club are red and green, but the traditional division is black and red. The club has had a football school certified by the FFF regional association for training children and young people for years . The league eleven play their home games in the Stade municipal of Cormelles-le-Royal, which has a capacity of around 1,800 spectators.

League affiliation and achievements

Soon after the establishment of the department, the women's team rose to the second women's league, which at the time was still called Championnat National 1 B and was divided into three regional groups. In the summer of 2000 she qualified for participation in the top division . There the ESC won around a third of their encounters in the 2000/01 season , but overall it was only enough for third from bottom place in the table, which was synonymous with immediate relegation. By 2014 the women of the club belonged again to the second division, interrupted by three years in the third division (2006/07 and 2008-2010). In the 2013/14 season, however, they were already determined to be relegated before the last match day and did not even play for their last encounter at CBOSL Angers . In 2014/15 they are only represented in the fourth division, the regional Promotion d'Honneur .

In the national cup competition , which was only introduced in 2001 , the women of the ES Cormelles reached the national main round in five draws up to and including 2015, for the first time in 2002/03 and most recently in 2012/13. But they never got beyond the sixteenth finals.
