Viscount Tunbridge

Viscount Tunbridge of Tunbridge in the County of Kent , is a hereditary British title of nobility created twice in the Peerage of England .

Awards and other titles

The first bestowal of the title was created on April 3, 1624 for Richard Burke, 4th Earl of Clanricarde , along with the subordinate title of Baron of Somerhill , both in the Peerage of England. In 1601 he had inherited the title Earl of Clanricarde, created in 1543 in the Peerage of Ireland , along with subordinate titles. In addition, on August 23, 1628, he was awarded the title Earl of St. Albans and subordinate titles in the Peerage of England . His son Ulick Burke, 5th Earl of Clanricarde was also raised on February 21, 1646 in the Peerage of Ireland to Marquess of Clanricarde . The marquessate and all mentioned English titles, including the Viscountcy Tunbridge, became extinct on his death in 1657.

The second bestowal of the title was created on May 10, 1695 for General Willem Hendrik van Nassau-Zuylestein , who came from the Netherlands , together with the titles Earl of Rochford , of Rochford in the County of Essex , and Baron Enfield , of Enfield in the County of Middlesex , all in the Peerage of England. He was with Wilhelm III in 1688 . came to England from Orange and naturalized as English in 1689. The titles expired on the death of his great-grandson, the 5th Earl, on September 3, 1830.
