Early is a city in Brown County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the center of the county, near the geographic center of Texas, at the junction of US Highway 67 and US Highway 84 .
history
The first settler was Welcome W. Chandler , who settled here around 1850. The first post office was opened in his house in 1858. In 1928, Walter U. Early , a public prosecutor, donated land to build several schools and in the following years more and more families moved near these schools. The first church was built in 1942 and on December 15, 1951, the town received city rights with 600 inhabitants.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 2,588 people in 980 households and 752 families lived here. The population density was 388.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 94.17% White, 1.00% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 3.25% other ethnic groups. About 0.62% were mixed race and 9.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 980 households, 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.0% of these were married couples living together. 11.7% were single mothers and 23.2% were non-families. 20.5% of all households were single households and there were people living in 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.01.
29.3% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.3% 18 to 24, 27.3% 25 to 44, 21.9% 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 92.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 87.5 men.
The median income for a household in the 36,150 USD , and the median income for a family 44,861 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,902 versus $ 20,694 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,755. 13.5% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 16.7% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 3.5% were 65 or older.
