Earthworm Jim is a video game hero and the title of Shiny Entertainment's debut project . The earthworm Jim unexpectedly becomes a superhero when suddenly an indestructible high-tech spacesuit falls on him from space.

Video games

The character was invented in 1993 by Doug TenNapel, the original game first appeared in 1994 for the Sega Mega Drive and for the Super Nintendo . The jump 'n' shoot attracted attention primarily with its bizarre humor and elaborate animations and was able to achieve consistently good ratings in the specialist magazines. On this success down followed conversions for the Sega Game Gear and Game Boy , even later, an expanded version was published for the Sega CD , also for Windows - PCs has been implemented. In 2001 a version for the Game Boy Advance was finally released .

The subsequent Shinys project was the successor Earthworm Jim 2 , which appeared again on Mega Drive and Super Nintendo - a graphically and musically improved version later appeared for the Sega Saturn . The second part diverged in large parts from the gameplay of the predecessor and looked like a game collection of various genres.

It wasn't until 1999 that the third part appeared with Earthworm Jim 3D . This was developed by VIS Entertainment and was released for PlayStation , Nintendo 64 and Windows PCs.

Atari SA planned a remake of the first part for the PSP , which should appear in 2007, but was discontinued.

Interplay announced that they are working with the earthworm creator on a fourth installment in the Earthworm Jim series. Unfortunately, there was no information about platforms and release dates. The latest adventure is created in collaboration with Douglas TenNapel, who acts as a creative consultant.

Gameloft announced at Gamescom 2009 in Cologne in August that it had signed a multi-year agreement with Interplay that would allow the studio to develop and sell Earthworm Jim games. In October 2009, a port for iPhone and iPod touch was finally published in Apple's App Store , for which the soundtrack was optimized and the game sections with the ride on the rocket introduced control using motion sensors.

The first game was released as Xbox Live Arcade , PlayStation Network and WiiWare titles as early as the end of the year , with the Xbox 360 version coming out a month before the other two. This is a remake of the classic worm that was released in 1994 for Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive.

On April 23, 2010, the game for Nintendo's download service DSiWare was released. In this version, a mini game has been integrated in which the player's face is analyzed with the help of the camera. The player has to make faces and can get bonuses.

Earthworm Jim HD was released on June 9, 2010 for Xbox 360 and August 3, 2010 for PlayStation 3 . The remake of the first part offers improved, higher-resolution graphics.

Earthworm Jim 1, 2 and 3D are available via Steam and also via the DRM- free download provider Good Old Games .
