Eberhard Barbi

Eberhard Barbi (born May 11, 1935 in Magdeburg ; † September 17, 2017 in Leezen ) was a German composer and choir director.

Life

Eberhard Barbi was born the son of a teacher and devoted himself to composition as a teenager. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Halle (Saale) . From 1973 he worked as a teacher and choir director in Schwerin and Pampow . In 2005 he was awarded the Ludwig Reinhard Culture Prize of the Ludwigslust district for his exemplary collection and preparation of Low German folk songs . In 2004 he was awarded the Johannes Gillhoff Prize for his life's work .
