Johannes Gillhoff Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Johannes Gillhoff Prize is awarded every year to people who have made merits in the field of literature, literary studies and journalism in connection with Mecklenburg and the Low German language . However, the price is not tied to a region or a language. It was named after the writer Johannes Gillhoff and donated by his nephew Gerhard Gillhoff in 1978.

In 1980, the Mecklenburg Cultural District in Hamburg awarded it for the first time. Since 1993 it has been awarded by the Kulturkreis together with the Johannes Gillhoff Society on the Gillhoff Day in Glaisin . Since 2006 this has been done solely by the Gillhoff Society.

The price is not associated with any premium. The board of the Kulturkreis and the Gillhoff Society make suggestions for the award winners. In addition, all award winners can submit proposals.
