Location of Glaisin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Glaisin has been part of the town of Ludwigslust in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany) since January 1, 2005 .

geography

Glaisin is located on the edge of the Griesen area in southwest Mecklenburg , around eight kilometers southwest of Ludwigslust. The until then independent village belonged to the Office Ludwigslust-Land until January 1, 2005 .

history

Glaisin emerged from an originally Wendish Hufendorf and was first mentioned in a document in 1282. Traces of a moat are still reminiscent of the robber baron's castle of the knight Hermann Riebe, which is said to have been one of the most powerful in Mecklenburg-Schwerin . This "Riebeburg" was conquered and destroyed in 1298 after a six-month siege by an army of Henry the Lion .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Glaisin
Blazon : "Under a green shield head, in it two diagonally crossed silver nibs, in silver under a floating red castle with crenellated wall, open arched gate and a crenellated tower, two green oak leaves diagonally crossed on the stems."

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Glaisiner Manfred Sturzenbecher . It was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on November 1, 1996 and registered under the number 115 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is intended to remember Johannes Gillhoff (1861–1930) with the quills and the castle of the robber baron Hermann Ribe's castle, which was destroyed by the allied princes in 1298. The oak leaves symbolize the old oak stock in the former municipality, some of which are designated as natural monuments. The tinging should refer to the affiliation of Glaisin to the former County of Dannenberg. When it was incorporated into the city of Ludwigslust on January 1, 2005, the municipal coat of arms lost its status as a national emblem. However, it can still be used by the residents as an identification symbol and as a sign of solidarity with their place.

flag

The flag was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on February 16, 2000.

The flag is evenly striped lengthways in white and green. In the middle of the flag is the coat of arms of the district, two thirds of the height of the white and green stripes. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.

Village image and sights

Glaisin was largely able to retain its village character. The place is characterized by farmhouses, which were mostly built in brick and lawn iron stone . The well-preserved three-sided courtyards in the town center are particularly characteristic . In 1992 a comprehensive renewal of the village began . In 1998 Glaisin won a gold medal in the national competition Our village has a future (formerly Our village should be more beautiful ), which so far only three other villages from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have achieved. At the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Glaisin represented the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as part of the joint federal and state project “Village 2000 - Examples of Sustainable Rural Development” with the project “Women design a village”.

Forester's house

The Grade II listed, with the help of EU and national funding beautifully restored Forsthof ensemble with eingeschossigem timber-framed building from the mid-19th century and livestock house, barn, draw well and a bakery from bog iron forms the center of the village. The inn also offers overnight accommodation for cyclists and day guests. In addition, the farm has been the branch office of the Ludwigslust registry office since November 2012 and thus offers the possibility of holding weddings on the outdoor area.

Outside the town center, traces of a moat still remind us of the robber baron's castle of the knight Hermann Riebe. There is also a burial mound from the Bronze Age .
