Life

After attending school and graduating from high school in Rostock, Grambow wrote for newspapers and from 1967 worked as an editor for the daily newspaper Der Demokratie . At the same time, in 1967 he began a correspondence course at the Humboldt University in Berlin, which lasted until 1972 . In 1972, Grambow became a lecturer at Hinstorff Verlag in Rostock and, in 1979, a development lecturer for GDR literature. From 1976 (Issue 10) to 1989 (Issue 21) he was in charge of the company's own in- house magazine trajekt for Hinstorff Verlag . In 1986 Grambow became a member of the GDR Writers' Association and in 1993 the PEN. From 1989 until its dissolution in 1991, Grambow was a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (Central Institute for Literary History / Working Group for Non-Socialist German-Language Literature) in Berlin . He then worked at the University of Greifswald for the Pomeranian dictionary . In 1991 Grambow did his doctorate in Bremen with Professor Wolfgang Emmerich .

Jürgen Grambow was the author and editor of numerous publications in northern German regional literature. In the large and small Hinstorff Bökerie , he oversaw numerous editions of works by Low German authors. A focus of his activity later formed the work of Uwe Johnson . Grambow was the first in the GDR to speak publicly for Uwe Johnson and to publish a selection from his works.

The State Security of the GDR , Rostock district administration, led Grambow in 1988 in an operational identity check (OPK) under the code name "Aesthet". The Fritz Reuter Gesellschaft Lübeck, with which Grambow had been in contact since 1985, reported on this in its newsletter in 2000 (“First report on the Stasi files of the Fritz Reuter Gesellschaft”): “At the same time, the OAM 'Ästhet' was included in the files introduced. Rostock, June 9, 1988, Dept. XX / 7: 'Review of the Grambow for operational use.' Rostock, June 15, 1988: '... Grambow is one of the opponent's target persons .... Information available on the objective of this eV [FRG] with regard to a subversive abuse of Low German within the framework of an all-German policy allows the version that Grambow in should be used in this sense. ' On July 13th, 1988 the customs administration of the GDR informed the MfS, district administration Rostock, that they had checked a rough shipment from Jürgen Grambow to Hans-Joachim Griephan , the assessment of the content ... showed that the sender had information about alleged practices in the GDR -Publisher 'makes.' Although the customs authorities do not initiate any action against Jürgen Grambow, Section XX / 7 of the BV Rostock uses the facts to take action against him. This is the first step towards the unsuccessful implementation of a plan drawn up on April 14, 1988 to win Jürgen Grambow for the MfS. "

Jürgen Grambow last lived in Altefähr on Rügen . His grave is in Rostock.
