Helmut de Voss (born January 23, 1917 at Klüßendorf farm near Wismar , † August 23, 2000 in Höchberg ) was a German farmer, officer and publisher ( Ferdinand Schöningh publishing house in Paderborn).

After attending grammar school, de Voss learned farming on Mecklenburg estates until he was called up for labor and military service in 1937. He took part in the Second World War as an officer, was wounded and, after 1945, took up the job of a stockist. From 1952 he worked as a department head at the Schöningh publishing house. For many years de Voss promoted the next generation of booksellers through his teaching activities in specialist courses, articles in specialist journals and his membership on the extended board of the German book trade association .

In his free time, de Voss worked as a speaker and Low German reciter. He wrote Low German short stories (pseudonyms: Gerhard Klüßendorf, H. Gerhard, H. Päplow), was co-editor of a selection from John Brinckman's works and published essays on Fritz Reuter and Friedrich Griese . A bibliography compiled by the Fritz Reuter literary archive Hans-Joachim Griephan Berlin lists more than 300 publications by and about Helmut de Voss.

The life experiences that de Voss gathered during his youth in the country and while working on the large estates led him to Fritz Reuter, the great Low German writer, and especially to his masterpiece Ut mine Stromtid with its inspector Bräsig, the most important figure in Reuters poetic works. In numerous treatises and lectures, de Voss developed into a well-known interpreter and reciter of this classic Mecklenburg poetry.

As successor to Walter Lehmbecker , Helmut de Voss was President of the Fritz Reuter Society from 1978 to 1988. In 1965 he was awarded the Fritz Reuter Medal of the Mecklenburg Landsmannschaft and in 1975 the Fritz Reuter Society's letter of honor. In 1979 de Voss received the Mecklenburg Culture Prize of the Landsmannschaft Mecklenburg and in 1986 the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
