Eberhard Bechtle

Eberhard "Ebi" Bechtle (born December 22, 1959 in Bad Wildbad , Germany ; † August 30, 1986 in West Berlin , Germany) was a German poet and storyteller .

Life

Eberhard Bechtle was born in Bad Wildbad, a municipality in the Black Forest , in 1959 . After graduating from high school, he moved to West Berlin in 1979 , where he initially began training as a bookseller , which he gave up, however, and which was followed by a degree in philosophy , literature and religion. In 1980 he published his first collection of poems "Ada-Teeblätter", which appeared as volume 2 in the series " Maldoror Flugschriften " edited by Bernd Gaiser , distributed by the Verlag rosa Winkel, Berlin. After that he lived in Rome for some time . As a result of this stay, the "Poems of the Night" published by the author in the self-published "Wald u. Welt" (in cooperation with "Maldoror Flugschriften") were published without a year. In 1979 he took part in the first West German meeting of gay authors that had taken place in West Berlin in the SchwuZ and some later very well-known authors took part there with Bechtle, among others. a. Jürgen Baldiga , Mario Wirz , Hans Eppendorfer , Herbert Tobias . He had a public reading in the gay bookstore "Sodom" in Munich .

Bechtle published texts in magazines ("Schwuchtel", "Berliner Schwulen-Zeitschrift") and anthologies ("Milchsilber. Words and Pictures from Gays", Berlin 1979, Verlag rosa Winkel), but also left behind numerous unpublished works, including the 20 page long Text "Boot der Knecht" or "Sarah und die Liebe" as well as "Der Spüler. Narrative", which were published by the author in the self-published "Wald und Welt" and are to be regarded as early finger exercises by him. Early poems were also published by the publishing house "Wald und Welt" (together with Jürgen Raible and others)

His most mature and most important work are the "micro-stories", which were published under the editorship of Bettina Augustin (and with an afterword by her) under the title "The Environment of the World" in 1991 in the Basilisken-Presse, Marburg an der Lahn are; later combined into a radio play and broadcast on the radio, excerpts from it were published in issue 3, June 1989, of the magazine for literature "Akzente" published by Hanser Verlag, Munich. A new edition took place in 2018.

In the memorial field “Names and Stones” by the artist Tom Fecht , a memorial stone is dedicated to Eberhard Bechtle.

Marked by his leukemia illness, he went to Paris in 1984 and moved to Munich in 1985. Eberhard Bechtle died in West Berlin in 1986 at the age of 26. Since his youth he suffered from chronic leukemia , he died of AIDS . He was buried in Sicily . Bechtle was a big lover of Italy. He left behind a large, unedited and previously unpublished work, including plays, novels and poems, and a radio play.

His estate is in the Sulzbach-Rosenberg Literaturhaus Oberpfalz eV and comprises five meters of shelves, including drawings by the poet.

In 2014, the text "A Brief History of Redemption" was performed in the City Church of Aachen as part of the literary program "Beyond the brook people live too".

During his lifetime, Eberhard Bechtle was considered one of the most important young homosexual poets in Germany, who was predicted to have a great career.

In 2018 a new edition of the out of print "Die Umgebung der Welt" was published by Golden-Luft-Verlag.

His best-known work "Mikrogeschichten", made into a radio play in 2007, has so far been broadcast by WDR 5 and Deutschlandfunk .
