Mario Wirz (born December 3, 1956 in Marburg an der Lahn ; † May 30, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Mario Wirz spent his childhood in Frankenberg in Hesse . After graduating from high school, he trained as an actor in Berlin. This was followed by engagements at various theaters as an actor and director, u. a. at the Vagantenbühne in Berlin and at the Stadttheater in Kiel .

Mario Wirz had his breakthrough as an author in 1992 with the volume of short stories It's late, I can't breathe , which, like some of his later works, addressed his HIV infection. Die Welt wrote: "With this volume too, Mario Wirz identifies himself as one of the most talented German-language writers."

From 1988 until his death he lived and worked as a writer in Berlin. His prose and poetry are published by Aufbau-Verlag . Translations of Wirz's works have appeared in France , the USA , Greece , the Ukraine , Italy and Hungary .

On May 30, 2013, Wirz died of complications from cancer in Berlin. In 2014 the short film " Mario Wirz " by Rosa von Praunheim was released , which was shot six weeks before the author's death on April 16, 2013. During a walk, both reflect on life and death.
