Eberhard II von der Marck-Arenberg (after another count Eberhard IV.) († around 1454 ) was Count von Arenberg from 1378 to 1454 and acquired other properties for his house.

Life

He was the son of Eberhard I. von der Marck-Arenberg and his wife Maria von Looz. Brother was Johann I von der Marck-Arenberg.

Eberhard II succeeded his father. He acquired important estates. He married Marie von Sedan. In 1424, his brother-in-law, Ludwig von Braquemont, came into his possession of Sedan and Florenville. The beginning of the construction of the Sedan Castle can be traced back to him since 1446 . By marrying his second wife Agnes von Rochefort, the county of Rochefort in what is now Belgium and other estates came into his hands.

Eberhard II was a warlike regent. He waged various feuds with the House of Luxembourg and the Liège Monastery . In 1445 there was even a dispute with Philip the Good of Burgundy.

progeny

He had three children with his first wife. The daughter Elisabeth married Count Georg von Sayn-Wittgenstein. The son Johann II inherited the estates Arenberg, Sedan and Lummen and the hereditary bailiwick in Hainaut . The son Jacob inherited a burgraviate in Picardy . The second marriage also had three children. The son Eberhard probably died young. Johann entered the clergy. Ludwig I inherited the county of Rochefort. This split the Marck-Arenberg house into the Arenberg and Rochefort lines.
