Karl Eberhard Zwicker (born January 15, 1924 in Öhringen ; † November 22, 1990 in Icking ) was a German acoustician and professor for electroacoustics at the Technical University of Munich .

life and work

Eberhard Zwicker, the son of the grammar school teacher Wilhelm Zwicker, studied physics and electrical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart and was later assistant to Richard Feldtkeller . In 1956, the TH Stuttgart awarded him the Venia legendi for electroacoustics. In 1967 he became full professor and director of the newly created Institute for Electroacoustics at the Technical University of Munich.

Together with Richard Feldtkeller, Zwicker was the author of the fundamental standard work on psychoacoustics : The ear as a message receiver. This is about the laws of the connection between hearing and sound . The work is based on research and verification work mainly from the 1950s and 1960s and coined terms such as listening threshold and frequency group .

Zwicker developed a method for calculating the volume level , which was standardized as DIN 45631. The pince-nez is named after him.

Zwicker was married and has two children.
