Eberhard von Gemmingen († September 10, 1635 ) was bailiff in Würzburg and landlord in Bürg and Presteneck .

Life

Epitaph for Bernolph von Gemmingen and his wife Anna von Grumbach in the Nikolauskirche in Neuenstadt am Kocher, where Eberhard is shown among the sons

He was a son of Bernolph von Gemmingen († 1609) and Anna von Grumbach († 1607). He became a bailiff in Würzburg. In 1622 he fled the fighting of the Thirty Years' War to Weinsberg , where he donated 60 guilders in alms for two children who died there. When his father's inheritance was divided, he received Bürg and Presteneck in 1629, while Widdern and Maienfels fell to his brother Hans Conrad († 1632).

Because his brother Hans Philipp († 1635), who had remained without descendants, was married to an Ehrenberg daughter, after his brother's death he took possession of half of Heinsheim , the ancestral home of the dying Ehrenbergers. There were long inheritance disputes over the property with the gentlemen of Helmstatt , who were also entitled to inherit , before an exchange of goods was agreed in 1649, which brought the Gemmingen the Rüdt'schen Hof in Buchen and half of the Helmstatt from Heinsheim.

He died of the plague on September 10, 1635 , which also killed three of his children within a few weeks.

family

He was married to Maria Agatha von Venningen, who died on December 22, 1632 in Bürg and was buried in Neuenstadt am Kocher . The marriage had ten children. Only the sons Georg Schweikard (1611–1681) and Achilles Christoph (1619–1676) survived their father and reached adulthood. The family branch founded by Georg Schweikard in Presteneck died out after a generation in the male line. Achilles Christoph received Bürg as an inheritance. It was followed by four generations before the Bürg-Presteneck branch and with it the entire Bürg der Freiherren von Gemmingen branch died out in the male line in 1841.
