Eboa Lotin

Emmanuel Eboa Lotin (born August 6, 1942 in Bonamuti Douala ( Cameroon ), † October 6, 1997 in Douala ) was a Cameroonian musician. Lotin was a representative of the Makossa , played a decisive role in shaping this style of music and made it known outside of Cameroon.

Life

Lotin was born on August 6, 1942, the son of a pastor and a housewife. The parents died when Lotin was just four years old. At a young age he suffered paralysis of his left leg from an injection of quinine . The autodidact started making music at the age of eight. In 1962, at the age of 20, he composed his first hit with Mulema Mam (My Heart). He was quickly successful and composed a total of 70 songs, which received a lot of attention on the African continent, but also internationally. In 1969 he was allowed to represent Cameroon at the first festival panafricain d'Alger . Lotin died in 1997, leaving behind a wife and five children. His last album was unfinished.
