Echeveria quitensis is a species of the genus Echeveria ( Echeveria ) in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

description

Echeveria quitensis grows very branched with 20 to 40 centimeter high shoots . Their bluntly lanceolate to obovate, green or gray-green to bluish, blunt leaves are scattered or arranged in a slightly rosette . They are 1 to 6 inches long and 1 to 1.5 inches wide. The leaves have an attached tip. They are sometimes reddened along the leaf margins. Leaf shape and color vary greatly.

The inflorescence is a 10 to 25 centimeter high grape . The flower stalks, which are up to 1 centimeter long, are spread out to ascending. The sepals of the flowers are ascending to spread out. Its 8 to 16 millimeter long corolla has a diameter of about 11 millimeters near the base. The petals are yellow at the base and scarlet above.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 44 or 82.

Systematics and distribution

Echeveria quitensis is common in Colombia and Ecuador . It was first described as Sedum quitense in 1823 by Karl Sigismund Kunth . John Lindley placed the species in the genus Echeveria in 1852 .

Echeveria quitensis is part of the series Nudae E.Walther the genus Echeveria . It will be the two varieties

  • Echeveria quitensis var. Quitensis and
  • Echeveria quitensis var. Sprucei

distinguished. The variety Echeveria quitensis var. Sprucei differs from the type form in that the flower stalks are bent back, the sepals are turned back and the number of chromosomes is different .
