Echinocereus primolanatus is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet primolanatus is derived from the Latin words primus for 'the first' and lanatus for 'woolly' and refers to the conspicuous white thorns of the species.

The green spherical to cylindrical shoots are 4 to 12 centimeters long and have a diameter of 2.5 to 5.5 centimeters. They are covered by the thorns. There are 16 to 26 low ribs that are slightly humped. The one to three central spines, which are only present on young shoots, are hair-like and brownish. They have a length of up to 1.5 centimeters. The 20 to 28 dirty white radial spines, arranged in two comb-like rows, are up to 0.4 centimeters long.
The broad, funnel-shaped flowers are bright pink. They appear near the shoot tips from very woolly bud, are 5.5 to 9 inches long and reach 5 to 9 inches in diameter. The egg-shaped fruits are almost dry and tear open lengthways. They are covered with thick wool and thorns.
