Echinocereus pseudopectinatus is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pseudopectinatus is derived from the Greek root word pseudo for 'wrong' and refers to the similarity with the species Echinocereus pectinatus .
description
Echinocereus pseudopectinatus usually grows individually. The light green cylindrical shoots are up to 20 centimeters long and have a diameter of 5 centimeters. They are partially hidden by the thorns. There are 15 to 16 slightly tuberous ribs . The three to five protruding, whitish central spines are occasionally arranged in two rows and have a length of 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters. The twelve to 15 spread, whitish radial spines are 0.9 to 1.5 centimeters long.
The funnel-shaped flowers are magenta in color. They appear near the shoot tips, are up to 11 centimeters long and reach 6 to 9 centimeters in diameter. The spherical fruits are red and thorny.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinocereus pseudopectinatus is distributed in the United States in the southeast of the state of Arizona and in the neighboring Mexican state of Sonora in a small area.
The first description as Echinocereus bristolii var. Pseudopectinatus by Nigel Paul Taylor was published in 1985. Four years later he raised the variety to the rank of an independent species. A nomenclature synonym is Echinocereus scopulorum subsp. pseudopectinatus (NPTaylor) W.Blum & Mich. Lange (1998)
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
