Echinopsis famatimensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet famatimensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the Sierra de Famatina .
description
Echinopsis famatimensis usually grows individually and only occasionally forms cushions. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of 3 to 7 centimeters with diameters of 2.5 to 6 centimeters. The apex of the shoot is sunk strongly. There are 24 to 30 low ribs that are dissolved into humps. The brownish areoles on them are elongated. Central spines are not developed. The seven to nine whitish to yellowish radial spines have a darker base. They are curved, lie on the shoot surface and have a length of up to 0.3 centimeters.
The short funnel-shaped, yellow to orange flowers are 3 to 3.5 centimeters long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinopsis famatimensis is distributed in the Argentine provinces of La Rioja and San Juan at altitudes of 1000 to 2000 meters.
The first description as Echinocactus famatimensis by Carlos Luis Spegazzini was published in 1921. Erich Werdermann placed the species in the genus Echinopsis in 1931 .
Further nomenclature synonyms are Lobivia famatimensis (Speg.) Britton & Rose (1923), Rebutia famatimensis (Speg.) Speg. (1923) and Mediolobivia famatimensis (Speg.) Pazout (1964, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3). In addition, the following taxa were included as synonymous in the species: Lobivia pectinifera Wessner (1940), Lobivia. densispina f. pectinifera (Wessner) Buining (1963), Lobivia haematantha subvar. pectinifera (Wessner) Rausch (1976), Lobivia haematantha var. pectinifera (Wessner) Rausch ex GDRowley (1982), Lobivia haematantha f. pectinifera (Wessner) Ullmann (1992), Echinopsis densispina var. pectinifera (Wessner) JGLambert (1998), Reicheocactus pseudoreicheanus Backeb. (1942), Lobivia famatimensis var. Jachalensis noise (1977) Rebutia famatimensis var. Jachalensis (noise) Šída (1997), Lobivia famatimensis var. Sanjuanensis noise (1977) and Rebutia famatimensis var. Sanjuanensis (noise) Šída (1997).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
