The Sierra de Famatina (also Nevado de Famatina , Cerro Famatina , Cumbre de Mejicana or Cerro Belgrano ) is a mountain range east of the Argentine Andes west of La Rioja (Argentina) . It is 6,250  m , according to other sources, 6,097  m high, making it one of the highest peaks in the country.

Like all Sierras Pampeanas , the Famatina does not belong to the Andes, but is an independent mountain range in front of the Andes. Due to its height, the mountain is heavily glaciated. The summit area is divided into three independent summits: In addition to the main summit Blanco or Alto, there are also the secondary summits Negro and Rosillo . At the main summit, the borders of the four departments of Famatina , Chilecito , Vinchina and General Lamadrid meet.

The name Cerro Belgrano or Cerro General Belgrano refers to the politician and General Manuel Belgrano .

In the Sierra de Famatina, gold and silver ores were mined in the first half of the 20th century. The ore was transported to the valley with a material cable car , which was extremely unusual for the time, 35 km long and 3500 meters in altitude . Remnants of this cable car can still be seen today at an altitude of 4500  m .

To the east of the Sierra de Famatina there is a wine-growing region up to the Sierra de Velasco , in which Rioja wines in particular are produced.
