Echinopsis riviere-de-caraltii usually grows individually. The spherical, glaucous gray-green shoots , which are wide at their base, reach heights of up to 6 centimeters with a diameter of 10 centimeters. There are 14 sharp-edged ribs that are broken up into ax-shaped cusps. The areoles on them are white and 2 to 3 centimeters apart. Thorns are practically not formed.

The long, funnel-shaped, white flowers appear on the side of the shoots and open at night. They are up to 21 centimeters long and have a diameter of 9 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics
