The real globe amaranth ( Gomphrena globosa ) is a species of the foxtail family .
features
The real spherical amaranth is an upright, annual plant that reaches heights of up to 30 centimeters. The leaves are elongated or ovate, blunt or pointed, prickly and hairy. They are 2 to 10 inches long. The inflorescence is spherical and colored purple-violet, pink or orange. It has a diameter of 2 to 3 centimeters.
The flowering period extends from July to September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38.
Occurrence
The real globe amaranth occurs in tropical to subtropical America .
use
The real ball amaranth is rarely used as an ornamental plant for summer borders, as a cut flower and as a dried flower. The species has been in culture since 1714 at the latest. There are some varieties, such as the 'Nana Compacta', which is only 15 centimeters high. Traditional use: Dried flowers infused as a tea for stomach complaints, coughs, laryngitis and for singers to clear the voice.
