Eckhard Meinberg

Eckhard Meinberg (* 1944 in Horn-Bad Meinberg ) is a German sports educator and university professor .

Life

Meinberg passed his Abitur in Detmold in 1964 , then studied philosophy, educational sciences and social sciences at the University of Cologne until 1971. In 1973, his doctoral thesis on "Hegel in 19th century pedagogy: studies on the history of his impact" was accepted at the University of Cologne. Between 1972 and 1978 Meinberg worked at the Institute for Education and Philosophy, first as a research assistant, then as a research assistant. He also submitted his habilitation in 1977 at the University of Cologne, the title of his work was "Educational Science and Sports Education: Analyzes of the Theory Understanding of Educational Science and Sports Education".

In 1978 Meinberg held a professorship at the Ruhr University in Bochum , and in 1979 he took up a professorship at the Institute for Education and Philosophy at the German Sport University in Cologne and took over the management of the institute. He stayed at the sports college until the beginning of his retirement in 2010. From 1987 to 1999 he held the office of Vice-Rector for Research and Young Scientists there. From 1988 he chaired the habilitation committee and was chairman of the ethics committee from 1992.

Meinberg's main research areas included pedagogical anthropology, educational philosophy, sports pedagogy and applied ethics. In the book “Doping or Sport”, published in 2008, he dealt with the use of prohibited means and practices in sport from an ethical point of view, and in 2000 he published the essay “Topfit = Dopfit? On the ethical situation of doping sport ”.

Meinberg was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Porto in 2006 for his services to the partnership between the German Sport University Cologne and the Universidade do Porto .
