Edward "Eddie" Gott (born May 4, 1876 in Lothersdale , † 1949 ) was an English football player .

Career

Goalkeeper Gott came from amateur club Rawdon FC to second division Bradford City in October 1904 . While he had to wait until October 1905 for his competitive debut in the first team, he won the West Yorkshire League and the West Riding Challenge Cup with the reserve team in 1904/05 (the cup success was repeated in 1906), and he was also selected in January 1905 the Bradford & District FA called on the occasion of a game against the Halifax FA , but could not participate in the game.

At the end of October 1905, God replaced the sick Jimmy Garvey for the first time and made his debut in a 2-1 win over Blackpool FC , in which he "proved to be flawless". After a 0-1 away defeat in the following game at Grimsby Town , coach Peter O'Rourke decided to try center forward Jimmy Logan in goal in the next game . In addition, the club signed two more goalkeepers, Teddy Daw and the Scot James Scott . In the meantime, Gott's performance was noted in the press: “Although he did very well [...] he lacks experience. The work he had to do against Blackpool and Grimsby was comparatively little and although he must have gained in confidence, you cannot put all your trust in his abilities. "

After two poor performances by Scott, God, who enjoyed the greatest sympathy among the supporters as a local hero, came back to the train in early December. Despite a 2-2 draw against Lincoln City and a subsequent 4-0 win in the FA Cup against Darlington FC , however, Daw was bet in the following months. It was only towards the end of the season that he ousted him from the team and in April 1906 came again to four missions, all of which were lost. For the final day of the match, Bradford signed the exceptional William "Fatty" Foulkes as goalkeeper. In the following season, God found himself on the reserve team again without exception.

For the 1907/08 season, Gott moved to FC Guiseley , with the club he met his old team-mates from Bradford City's reserve team in the semifinals of the West Riding Challenge Cup . In the summer of 1908 he joined Castleford Town , for the club God played one season each in the West Yorkshire League and the Midland League until 1910 .
