Dolmen of la Gante
The dolmen of la Gante (also called Plo des Tres Pierres or Dolmen du Plo de Laganthe ) is located right next to the D64 road northeast of Labastide-Rouairoux, east of Mazamet in the Parc Regional du Haut Languedoc , in the east of the Tarn department near the border with the department Hérault in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The dolmen simple, which consists of four preserved stones, has a 4.8 × 3.2 m capstone, which weighs about 21 tons and rests on two supporting stones 4.1 and 4.5 m in length. In between there is another slanted stone.
The dolmen was declared a monument historique in 1889 .
context
The dolmen of la Gante is one of the few dolmens in the granite area of the southern Tarn. There are around 100 menhirs and statue menhirs , but fewer than 10 dolmens. In the limestone area in the north of the department there are a large number of dolmens, but fewer than five menhirs.
Nearby are the menhirs of la Crosse 1 and 2, Briol and Rocadel.
