Eddie Khan

Edward "Eddie" Khan (* around 1935 ) is an American jazz bassist .

Life

Eddie Khan is one of the few jazz musicians who switched from a woodwind instrument to a rhythm instrument . He began his career as an alto saxophonist in the San Francisco area and didn't start playing bass until the 1950s. During this time he was a member of the Mal Waldron Quartet and in 1958 accompanied the singer Billie Holiday at the Monterey Jazz Festival . Khan was best known for his participation in a number of classic sessions on the Blue Note label in the first half of the 1960s, such as recordings by Donald Byrd , Joe Henderson , Andrew Hill , Freddie Hubbard and Jackie McLean . He also worked on recordings by Eric Dolphy and Bill Barron , as well as the quartet of Max Roach and Shirley Scott and Kenny Burrell . Later recordings are not known.
