Eddie Kohler

Eddie Kohler (born July 16, 1973 in Massachusetts ) is an American computer scientist .

Career

Kohler graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in music and computer science in 1995 and a master's degree in computer science in 1997, where he received his doctorate from Frans Kaashoek in 2000 (The click modular router). He was Assistant Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles , from 2004 , and is Microsoft Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University , where he has been since 2011.

In 2000 he founded Mazu Networks and was their chief scientist until they were taken over by Riverbed Technology in 2009 .

He deals with operating systems, networks (Click Modular Router in his dissertation), programming languages ​​and software engineering. Together with others, he developed the Asbestos operating system, which protects sensitive user information even in the event of software errors.

In 2014 he received the Mark Weiser Award . In 2006 he was selected in the TR35 (Top 35 Innovators under 35) of the MIT Technology Review.

He is the author of the HotCRP software for submitting and reviewing academic papers for conferences.

He is also known for the text Get me off your fucking mailing list , which he and David Mazières sent to the International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology .
