Edward McDonald "Eddie" Stewart (born November 15, 1934 in Dundee , † November 11, 2015 ibid) was a Scottish football player .
Career
Stewart played after graduating from Stobswell Secondary School for the Ashdale Amateurs and Osborne in Dundee junior football before he was the first engagement of Dundee United's new coach Reggie Smith in September 1954 . Previously, he had convinced as a test player on the first days of the second division season 1954/55 against FC Stenhousemuir and FC St. Johnstone . At Dundee, he established himself as a left wing runner , who was sometimes called up as a defender, and made English clubs aware of his performance.
In December 1955, his conscription to the military interrupted his career, while he was stationed with the Royal Army Service Corps in Aldershot , he joined the English third division club Norwich City on loan at the beginning of the 1957/58 season . There he met his former Dundee teammate Maurice Milne and played a total of 13 league appearances as a left wing runner for the club between August and October 1957, when the club moved from 15th place in the table to third place. With the end of his military service he returned to Dundee United, a transfer offer from Norwich coach Archie Macaulay in the amount of £ 5,000 was rejected by Dundee.
As a result, he succeeded under the coaches Tommy Gray and Andy McCall no longer to establish himself in Dundee's starting eleven and in February 1959 he was finally allowed a free transfer. He was then briefly active with second division rivals FC Arbroath before he played for some time as a test player in the reserve team of Leeds United - at the side of the later club idol Billy Bremner . After a second division for FC St. Johnstone at the beginning of the 1959/60 season and a short stay at Nairn County in 1960, his footballing career ended and Stewart earned his living from then on with the Dundee-based house construction company Bett Brothers .
