Erdinç "Eddy" Sözer (born July 11, 1968 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish football coach . He is mostly active as assistant trainer to Bruno Labbadia .
childhood
Eddy Sözer was born in Istanbul. He came to Darmstadt with his family at the age of three .
Career
As a player, Sözer was active for SV Darmstadt 98 , SKG Roßdorf , TSV Pfungstadt and SKG Ober-Ramstadt . As a 16-year-old, he sustained a serious ankle injury. Because he did not fully recover from this injury and sustained further injuries, he had to end his playing career at the age of 21. After having previously worked as a coach in the youth field, he took over a team in the adult field for the first time immediately after the end of his playing career. In February 1997 he became head coach at SKG Roßdorf, which he left after the 2001/02 season. He then became assistant coach of the second team of SV Darmstadt 98. From 2003 to 2005 Sözer coached the U-19s of SV Darmstadt 98, after which he took over its second team again.
In 2007, at the request of the new Fürth head coach Bruno Labbadia , the previous coach of the first team at SV Darmstadt 98, Sözer became assistant coach of SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 2nd Bundesliga . In order to switch to professional football, Sözer gave up his job as an IT clerk. A year later he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga with Labbadia . So Sözer was after Özcan Arkoç and Bülent Albayrak the third Turkish coach in the top German soccer division. With Leverkusen, the coaching team reached the cup final in 2009 .
After the 2008/09 season, Sözer joined the Hamburger SV with Labbadia . In April 2010 both were on leave from HSV. Then Sözer sat in on FC Barcelona .
In December 2010, Sözer took over VfB Stuttgart as Labbadia's assistant coach . On January 30, 2013, he extended his contract with Stuttgart until the end of June 2015. On August 26, 2013, he was released from work.
As a participant in the 61st football teacher course at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy , Sözer received his license as a football teacher on March 30, 2015, and thus the approval as head coach in professional football.
On April 15, 2015 Sözer returned to Hamburger SV with Labbadia . Both were given another leave of absence from HSV on September 29, 2016.
Back together with Labbadia, he took over VfL Wolfsburg on February 20, 2018, again in his position as assistant coach.
On April 13, 2020, Labbadia and Sözer took over the Bundesliga team from Hertha BSC .
