Eddy Stibbe (born November 1, 1948 ) is a Dutch rider . He was one of the leading eventing riders in the Netherlands. Since 1999 he has been participating in international competitions for the Netherlands Antilles .

Stibbe was born into a family of riders. His mother Ans competed in several international women's equestrian competitions, his father Daddy was a show jumper and chairman of the Dutch Equestrian Federation (NBVR).

Eddy Stibbe himself sat on a horse for the first time at the age of three, but showed little interest and initially preferred to play hockey, football and became junior champion of the province of Noord-Brabant in water skiing .

In 1964 and 1965 Stibbe was the Dutch junior champion in show jumping. In 1971 he competed in his first military riding competition .

Stibbe celebrated his greatest successes at the European Military Championships . In 1989 he won the silver medal with the Dutch military team in Burghley . He achieved the best placement in the individual competition in 1993 in Achselschwang when he won the bronze medal with his horse Bahlua behind the French Jean-Louis Bigot and the British Kristina Gifford .

Stibbe has participated in the Olympic Games five times since 1972. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Stibbe reached 13th place in the individual competition. The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens were less successful for him. After the dressage he was still ranked 38th, but fell back to rank 58 in the cross-country ride. With only one drop in jumping, Stibbe improved to 53rd place.

Disputes with the Dutch Equestrian Federation repeatedly resulted in Stibbe taking part in competitions for other nations. In 1974 he rode for Ireland for a year after the Dutch Federation refused to allow him to start at the event in Punchestown , Ireland .

When the Dutch federation did not register him at the 1998 World Military Championship , Stibbe switched to the federation of the Netherlands Antilles in 1999.

Stibbe has lived in Waresly ( Cambridgeshire ) since 1994 and is married to the British rider Mandy Jeakins . Until April 2004 he was a member of the eventing committee of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) for four years . In 2000 the International Olympic Committee awarded him the Olympic Medal .
