Eduard Mahler
Eduard Mahler (born September 28, 1857 in Numbers , Hungary ; † June 29, 1945 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian orientalist , natural scientist and archaeologist .
Life
Mahler studied mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna from 1876 to 1880 . From 1882 until Theodor Oppolzer's death in 1886 he worked in his scientific laboratory. Then he was a research assistant at a royal Austrian commission. Already in his early years he was engaged in Oriental Studies , Near Eastern Archeology ( Assyriology ) and Egyptology , subjects which he taught as a private lecturer at the University of Budapest. In 1889 he was awarded the royal medal "litteris et artibus" by Sweden and Norway. In 1898 he became the official representative of the Hungarian National Museum.
