Høiseth was active in international speed skating for a total of 19 years. She made her debut in 1983 at the European and World Championships. Although she was more of a sprint specialist, Høiseth also competed in all- around championships . Her best result was a 19th place in 2000 in Milwaukee after she had reached first place over 500 meters. At the speed skating individual distance world championships in 1996 , 1999 and 2000 , she landed in the top 10 over 500 and 1000 meters respectively. Høiseth won her only international championship medal at the 1996 World Sprint Championships in Heerenveen . She finished second in the sprint all-around after she had placed between second and fifth in the individual courses. Furthermore, she competed in five Winter Olympic Games between 1984 and 1998 . Høiseth's best result was eighth over 500 meters at the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer .
After her retirement in 2002, she was a trainer for the Spanish speed skater Asier Peña Iturria .
