Gemstone engraver

The gemstone engraver is a German, state-recognized training occupation in accordance with the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code .

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a gemstone engraver is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . It is a mono job .

Work areas

Gem engravers work in the jewelry industry as well as at jewelers . They engrave the gemstones using various techniques, prepare stones for engraving , separate and shape them. But they also rework stones that have already been engraved, for example by polishing, greasing and painting.

There is a separate profession for processing diamonds , the diamond grinder with a focus on jewelery diamonds .
