Edgar Grande

Edgar Grande (born November 12, 1956 in Schwendi ) is a German political scientist . Since October 2004 he has been Professor of Comparative Political Science at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Education

Edgar Grande began studying political science, empirical cultural studies , sociology and economics at the University of Tübingen in the 1976 winter semester . In 1979 and 1980 he attended the 12th and 13th Essex Summer Schools in Social Science Data Analysis and Collection at the University of Essex, respectively. In June 1982 Grande completed his studies in political science and empirical cultural studies.

In June 1989, Edgar Grande doctorate at the University of Konstanz Dr. rer. soc. with the topic: “From monopoly to competition? The neoconservative reform of telecommunications in Great Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany - a comparative analysis of economic-political configurations ”.

The habilitation followed in 1994 at the Faculty of Administrative Science at the University of Konstanz for the subjects of political science and administrative science. The topic of the habilitation thesis was: “From the nation state to European political integration. Expansion and transformation of modern statehood - examined using the example of research and technology policy ”.

academic career

Edgar Grande was after his studies as a student assistant and later a research assistant at the Department of Gerhard Lehmbruch operates the University of Konstanz. After receiving his doctorate, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Social Research in Cologne as a research fellow in February 1989 . Grande was a researcher there until 1996 and from 1989 to 1994 he worked on the "Industrial Research and State Policy" project. In between he was called to represent the chair for comparative political science at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) . In April 1996 Grande was first acting head of the chair for political science at the Technical University of Munich, then in August 1996 he took over the chair. From October 2004 to 2017, Grande taught comparative political science at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 2017 he became the founding director of the Center for Civil Society Research at the Science Center Berlin for Social Research.

Grande has been married to Brigitte Grande since June 15, 1989 and has had a son since 1994.

Prizes and awards

In 1991, Edgar Grande received the Fritz Thyssen Foundation's 3rd prize for articles in the social sciences of the 1991 journal for the article “Reform strategies and state capacities for action”, which he wrote together with Volker Schneider.
