Edhem Eldem

Edhem Eldem (* 1960 in Geneva ) is a Turkish historian .

Eldem graduated from Istanbul Boğaziçi Üniversitesi with a BA in Mechanical Engineering in 1979 . There he also passed the MA examination at the Faculty of Administration and Economics in 1983 . In the same year he went to the course and recording course Master of Advanced Studies at the University of Aix-Marseille I . There he was in 1989 at the Institute of General Linguistics and Oriental and Slavic studies with a thesis Le commerce français d'Istanbul au XVIIIème siècle doctorate .

Eldem is a great-grandson of the Ottoman Grand Vizier İbrahim Edhem Pasha (1813-1893) and brother of the writer Burek Eldem .

Today (2012) Eldem works at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul in the Faculty of History, Art and Science and was a 2011/12 fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin .
