Ernst Coenen
Ernst Coenen (born April 3, 1906 in Eupen ; † September 23, 1996 in Cologne ) was a German lawyer, diplomat during the National Socialist era and an industrial manager in the Federal Republic of Germany .
Life
Coenen attended the humanistic grammar school in Saarlouis and studied law in Geneva , Munich and Berlin from 1925 to 1929 . After his legal clerkship and doctorate in 1932, he was employed in the Prussian judicial service. In 1934 he was drafted into the Foreign Service and, after passing his diplomatic and consular examination, was employed at the Consulate General in Thorn . On December 1, 1937, he joined the NSDAP ; Coenen was also a member of the SS and worked there in the legal department of the news tower. After the western campaign in 1940 he came to Brussels as a legation councilor and to the armistice commission in Paris . From September 1943 he did military service and was interned by the Allies from August 1944 to September 1946 .
Nothing is known about its denazification .
From 1946 he worked as a lawyer in Düsseldorf and from December 1949 at the Steel Trustees Association. From January 1954 Coenen was a member of the executive board of Fritz Thyssen Vermögensverwaltungs AG . In 1961, after founding the Fritz Thyssen Foundation , which was endowed with DM 100 million, he was appointed to its first board of directors and influenced German research and cultural policy through the management and distribution of the foundation funds.
