The Edinburgh House , today Max-Kade-Haus , is a residential building in Berlin-Westend that is a listed building. It originally housed the British Military Government's guest house, but is now a student residence. To the west of the building is the Deutschlandhaus , from which the British broadcaster British Forces Network broadcast from 1945 to 1954.
history
The Edinburgh House was built by Werner Düttmann from 1960 to 1962. The building was put into operation in 1962 as a transit hotel with 50 rooms. Until 1995 it was the guest of the British military government and hotel for British officers. From 1982 to 1983 the facades were repaired and given a concrete-colored paint. During the undertaking, the ceramic elements of the balcony parapets were replaced with aluminum elements and the wooden windows with aluminum windows. During renovation work in 1989, the color scheme was changed and an elevator tower was added. In early 1994 the Edinburgh House was closed.
The International Study Center as a dormitory and meeting place for foreign exchange students was established in the building after the withdrawal of the British armed forces at the suggestion of Helmut Kohl and François Mitterrand and is operated by the Studierendenwerk Berlin .
description
