Edith Sommer

Edith Sommer (born January 28, 1927 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Edith Schwab studied German philology and philology at the University of Vienna and received her doctorate in 1950. phil. From 1951 to 1954 she worked as an interpreter and was director of the children's and youth library in Innsbruck . She then worked as a youth worker at the Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts in Vienna. She then worked as a librarian in the Army History Museum from 1955 and as a librarian in the Austrian National Library from 1958.

She married in 1966 and called Edith Mrázek, she had a child and worked from 1967 to 1989 as a doctor's assistant in her husband's practice.

She mainly wrote poetry from her youth. She published poetry, prose and radio plays under the pseudonym Edith Sommer. Their opposition to National Socialism and their pacifist and humane attitude to life are evident in their writings.

Edith wrote various non-fiction books and radio plays on ORF, wrote texts for cantatas and song cycles, published in anthologies and magazines, and wrote book reviews. She was the editor of anthologies and the initiator of literary events.
