The Editors' Forum of Namibia (EFN; German  editor Forum of Namibia ) is a group of Namibian journalists and media . It is based in the capital, Windhoek .

Members are drawn from both private and state media in the country. The chairman of the EFN is (as of October 2019) Frank Steffen from the Allgemeine Zeitung , his deputy Peter Denk from the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation .

The organization initially operated under the name Namibian Editors' Forum . However, since the abbreviation NEF was previously used by the Namibian Employers' Federation , the current name was adopted.

task

The EFN acts as a representative of the interests of the media in Namibia, a task that the Windhoek Press Club also tried to fulfill temporarily . One of the primary goals of the EFN since it was founded in 2007 has been to create a functioning media self-regulation system, similar to the press councils common in many countries. This was intended to create an alternative to costly and time-consuming legal proceedings and also to prevent a state-controlled press council, as proposed in a resolution by the governing SWAPO in 2007.

Together with the Namibian Chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), a media ombudsman was set up at the end of 2010 , a first point of contact for people who feel they have been treated inappropriately by the media. The media humbudsman is supported by the so-called Media Complaints Committee, the second instance of journalistic self-regulation in Namibia. A Media Appeals Board as a third instance is planned (as of 2010).
