Edme Mongin

Edme Mongin (born January 22, 1668 in Baroville , † May 5, 1746 in Bazas ) was a French Roman Catholic bishop, Commendatarabbot and member of the Académie française .

life and work

Edme Mongin chose the clergy and was successively the private tutor of the Duke of Bourbon and Charles de Bourbon, comte de Charolais . His extraordinary eloquence earned him three eloquence prizes in 1697, 1699 and 1701 in a row from the Académie française, which made him a member from 1707–1708 (seat No. 26). In 1711 he became Commendatarabbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Martin d'Autun . The king appointed him bishop of Bazas in 1624 . He died in 1746 at the age of 78. In Bazas the Rue Edme Mongin commemorates him.
