Edmond Fleischhauer

Joseph Louis Edmond Fleischhauer (born September 25, 1812 in Strasbourg , † March 11, 1896 in Colmar ) was an Alsatian entrepreneur , local politician, patron and collector.

Edmond Fleischhauer was the son of the Strasbourg merchant Jean David Fleischhauer and his wife Louise Wilhelmine nee Weyher. He married Amélie Wilhelmine Wimpffe on May 4, 1840 in Colmar.

In 1840 Edmond Fleischhauer founded a drugstore in Colmar and lived there as a merchant. He became President of the Commercial Court and in 1870 the founding President of the Colmar Chamber of Commerce . He is politically active as a member of the Colmar City Council. In 1879 he was elected as a representative from Colmar in the regional committee of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine .

He participated in the cultural life in Colmar. From 1880 to 1896 he was the President of the Schongauer Society. He bequeathed his extensive collection (swords, armor, rifles, objects made of ivory or porcelain) to the city of Colmar. The collection is now on display in the Unterlinden Museum . One of the rooms there bears his name.

The rue butcher in Colmar has been named after him since 1907.
