Edmund Benedict

Edmund Benedikt (born June 10, 1851 in Döbling , † February 1, 1929 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician .

Life

Born the son of a Jewish factory owner, Benedikt studied history and law in Vienna from the winter semester 1868/69 after attending the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna, where he became a member of the Braune Arminia fraternity in 1868 . In 1874 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . In 1880 he became a lawyer in Vienna. From 1890 to 1908 he was a member of the Bar Committee. During this time he published numerous legal writings, including working on the draft Austrian criminal law, in particular on reforming the criminal process . From 1890 to 1904 he was editor of the legal papers . From 1896 to 1902 he was a councilor for the city of Vienna and a liberal member of the Lower Austrian state parliament . From 1919 he was President of the National Debt Control Commission.

His sister Ottilie was married to Karl Emil Franzos . His nephew was the later historian Heinrich Benedikt .
