Edmund Kammel (born October 2, 1846 in Munich , † October 28, 1914 in Weilheim ) was a self-employed pharmacist in Weilheim and author of tour books and maps for cyclists.

Life

For his services he was made an honorary member in the summer of 1897 at the general assembly of the 12th Congress of the General Cyclists Union - German Touring Club in Munich. Kammel wrote in his tour book 1899 (Gaue between Inn and Salzach) of his 18 years of experience as a touring driver. He probably started cycling around 1881 when he was around 35 years old.

From 1895 at the latest he lived as a self-employed pharmacist in Weilheim, possibly as early as 1889. Before that, Edmund Kammel was a pharmacist in the Malteser pharmacy in Landsberg from 1873 or 1875 .

Kammel is also referred to as the most successful touring rider around 1900: In 18 years of his literary career, he has covered at least 18,000 kilometers himself, some of the routes in his tour books several times. The 2nd edition of the tour book for southern Bavaria contains 100 main routes with a length of around 6,850 km and other secondary routes. The 4th edition already contains 218 main routes. The detail and accuracy of his route descriptions were already praised at the time.

Edmund Kammel was chairman of the RV Weilheim cycling club in 1897.
