Edmund Schmidt (politician)

Edmund Schmidt (born March 2, 1845 in Altenburg ; † February 6, 1924 there ) was a cigar manufacturer and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Schmidt attended the Polytechnic School and Technical University in Dresden . During his studies in 1861 he was a co-founder of the Cheruscia Dresden fraternity . In 1864 he went into his father's business, a cigar factory. He was a member of the landscape of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg, city councilor of Altenburg and member of the state parliament in the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg from 1919 to 1920, where he belonged to the DNVP .

From 1907 to 1912 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Saxony-Altenburg (( Altenburg , Roda )) and the German Reich Party .

The creation of a city forest in Altenburg goes back to his initiative and he donated 20,000 marks for the construction of a Bismarck tower in his hometown.
