Edmund Sheffield, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby
Edmund Sheffield, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (born January 11, 1716 , † October 30, 1735 in Rome ), was a British nobleman .
Life
He was the third and youngest legitimate son of John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (1647-1721). His mother was his third wife, Lady Catherine Darnley, who was an illegitimate daughter of King Jacob II .
His two older brothers had died before he was born. When his father died on February 24, 1721, he inherited his title of nobility as 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby , 2nd Marquess of Normanby , 4th Earl of Mulgrave and 6th Baron Sheffield , including the associated seat in the House of Lords .
In 1732 he began studying at Queen's College , Oxford . He then served in 1734 as the aide-de-camp of his exiled uncle, James Fitzjames, 1st Duke of Berwick , who was operating as a French general on the Rhine during the War of the Polish Succession .
In 1735 he died of tuberculosis in Rome, unmarried and childless . His titles of nobility expired. His body was transferred to London and buried in Westminster Abbey .
