Edoardo Zardini (born November 19, 1976 in Cortina d'Ampezzo ) is a former Italian ski racer . He was a member of the Italian national ski team from 1999 to 2008, his specialty being slalom .

biography

It is thanks to Zardini's mother that he got into skiing. At the age of five he became a member of the Cortina Ski Club. He celebrated his first major success at the age of 18 when he finished second in slalom at the Italian Junior Championship. After graduating from school, he devoted himself entirely to ski training. Through various FIS races and successes in the European Cup , he made the jump into the Italian national ski team in 1999.

Zardini made his debut in the World Cup in January 2000 in Chamonix , but initially could not assert himself there. For two years it remained without a valid result. The series of failures ended in January 2002. At the World Cup slalom in Wengen , he surprisingly finished third. With this achievement he qualified for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , where he was eliminated in the first slalom run.

In the following two years he could not even come close to confirming his performance from Wengen. With one exception, a knockout slalom, he was again without a placement. Only in early 2004 did he achieve some successes. With three placements in the top ten, he came in 18th place in the overall slalom ranking of the 2003/04 season . In the following three seasons, he managed only one result (22nd place in Schladming on January 24, 2006). On February 9, 2008, Zardini drove his last World Cup race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
