Edouard Tenet (born July 7, 1907 in Lyon - † February 25, 1978 ) was a French boxer . He was the European champion of professional middleweight boxers.

Career

Edouard Tenet started out as a professional boxer in his hometown of Lyon in 1923 at the age of just 17 . In the first years of his career he boxed with varying successes almost exclusively in Lyon or in the southern French region and in Spain . Not until August 19, 1930 did he meet an opponent of international rank, the Italian lightweight champion Cleto Locatelli , against whom he lost on points after 10 rounds. On February 15, 1931 he succeeded in Paris a victory over the future Belgian European champion Adrien Anneet , against whom he was defeated on points in the rematch on April 22, 1931 in Brussels.

On December 23, 1931, Edouard Tenet was French welterweight champion by winning points over Jules Alverel in Paris. He successfully defended this title eight times over the next four years. He defeated u. a. his compatriots Aime Raphael, Rene Raux, Eugene Drouhin and Camille Yvet, who were well known at the time. He scored almost exclusively on points, as he was never a pronounced puncher during his entire career, but a gifted technician.

Edouard Tenet celebrated a remarkable victory on January 6, 1933 in Paris when he defeated the German Gustav Eder over 10 rounds on points. In 1935 he put down his French welterweight championship title because of weight problems and from this point on only fought in the middleweight division. With victories over the Greek Anton Christoforidis on November 5, 1936 in Paris and Cleto Locatelli, whom he beat on July 3, 1937 on points, Edouard Tenet qualified for a fight for the vacant European Middleweight Championship against the German champion Jupp Besselmann . This fight took place on April 7, 1938 in the Berlin Sports Palace and Edouard Tenet was with a techn. KO victory over Besselmann in the 12th round new European champion .

But he could not enjoy this success for long, because on July 17, 1938 he lost his title in Rotterdam by losing points over 15 laps to the Dutchman Bep van Klaveren . However, the colorful interplay continued, because in his next fight he won this title back on January 10, 1939 in Paris by winning points over Anton Christoforidis, who had meanwhile accepted this title by Bep van Klaveren.

On February 21, 1942 Edouard Tenet then also won the French middleweight championship by winning points over Jean Despeaux . After he had surrendered his European championship title in the summer of 1942 without a fight, he was able to successfully defend his French championship title several times against Assane Diouf, Joe Brun and Jean Despeaux in 1943 and 1944. He finally lost this title to the last-named boxer in the spring of 1944.

After the Second World War Edouard Tenet got on January 18, 1946 again the chance to box against Marcel Cerdan for the French middleweight championship. At that time, however, he was already 39 years old and could not withstand the younger, energetic Marcel Cerdan, who later even became world champion . After all, he went with Cerdan over the full fight time of 12 rounds and only lost on points.

After losing points to Jean Stock on January 20, 1942 in Gennevilliers , Hauts-de-Seine department , he ended his boxer career.
